North Port Youth Soccer
Frequently Asked Questions
- What are the methods used to advertise for seasonal registration?
- NPYS will use our website, mass email distribution, school fliers and/or advertisements in local papers to inform the public of registration information.
- Will late registrations submitted past the registration end date be accepted?
- No, the end of registration is the absolutely last date to accept registration because NPYS must begin immediately forming teams, contacting coaches, ordering uniforms, etc. in order to be ready for the first weekend of soccer.
- Why does it take so long to hear from my coach once the registration period ends?
- After registration ends, coaches must be recruited to coach every team, U6 & U8 divisional teams assigned, the “blind draw” for the older divisions has to be conducted, a coaches meeting scheduled.
- What takes place at the coaches meeting prior to the season start?
- All NPYS rules and expectations are discussed, rosters distributed, practice times scheduled and equipment distributed. All coaches are directed to make contact with all of their players following this meeting.
- How is the “blind draw” conducted for the U10 & older divisions?
- The head coach and the assistant coach get to pick their child first. All other players in these divisions are assigned a number that is used in the draw. All participating coaches in the division take turns picking out a number until all coaches have picked approximately an equal number of players. At this point, the drawn numbers are corresponded with the names of the players to form the roster. No modifications are made to the roster from this point. (Siblings will be placed on the same team).
- I requested a certain day for practice on my registration form, why is that not honored?
- NPYS attempts to honor certain special requests that are identified on the registration form but we have absolutely no way of knowing what night your coach will elect to practice.
- May I transfer my child from one team to another that practices on another night?
- You must work with the two coaches involved and it will only be approved by NPYS if both teams exchange players to keep the total number on the team the same. This will be done only in extreme circumstances, must be approved by NPYS beforehand, and conducted before the first game. NPYS does not have the resources to track down all the coaches and arrange for player transfers, the parents must do all the legwork and get the approval once all parties involve approve. No exceptions!
- Do competitive players play recreational soccer?
- Absolutely not! All NPFC players sign a contract prior to the competitive season stating that they will not join any other team while they play competitively. This includes recreational soccer with NPYS.
- What is a developmental team?
A. A developmental team is a team of players not quite ready for competitive soccer that has been identified through a series of tryouts. These teams play up one age group in divisional play in the recreational league to continue to develop these young boys and girls at they prepare for competitive play.
- Will the U14 and U16 teams be playinf 3v3 this spring?
A. No, they will be playing 8v8.

North Port Youth Soccer Policy for players switching teams.
If a player wants to switch teams for any reason (scheduling conflicts) then they have 2 options.
Option 1.
They can email registrar@northportyouthsoccer.org to be put on a Player Switch Request List. There has to be a Player for Player swap. We can't guarantee that any change will be made. We will do our best to accommodate these players. All player switches will be made 2 weeks before the first game. There will be no switches after that date. The players will be switched on a first come first serve basis.
Option 2.
They can receive a refund less any expenses that NPYS has incurred.
