Modified Rules for NPYS Soccer

NPYS Spring 2012 U6 Rules

  1. 50% PLAY Rule - Always at least 50% playing time for all kids.
  2. No shin guards = no play.
  3. U6 cannot touch ball inside goal box. (Defensive touch results in a goal for opposing team, Offensive touch results in a goal kick for opposing team.)
  4. No offside called.
  5. Substitutions allowed by either team on any dead ball.
  6. Penalty Kicks/Free Kicks will be awarded if the penalty calls for it.  All Penalty Kicks/Free Kicks are from the midfield line with all of the other players behind the ball (Empty Net). Once the ball is played it becomes a live ball.
  7. A goal cannot be scored from a kickoff.  The ball must touch at least one other player before going in the goal.
  8. Game length: U6 will play four (8 minute) periods. with 2 min break between periods.
  9. Maximum number of players on the field for U-6 is 5 Players on each side.
  10. Red and Yellow cards will be given if the penalty warrants.
  11. All other NPYS rules and regulations remain unchanged.
  12. In U6 the coach may go onto the field to help assist in positioning of players on Goal kicks, Corner Kicks and Throw-ins. The coach must not interfere with play and must have an assistant on the sideline with the team.
  13. No score will be kept.  This is recreational soccer and the purpose is for the players to have fun and to develop a love for the game.  Make it fun for all of the players.

U10 Rules for Spring 2012 Soccer

  1. 50% Play Rule - Always at least 50% playing time for all kids.
  2. No shin guards = no play.
  3. Goalies must wear alternate shirt color (pennies can be used)
  4. No offside called during play for U10.
  5. Substitutions allowed by either team on any dead ball.
  6. Goal kicks are not to cross mid-field in the air (penalty: indirect kick from mid-field).
  7. No punt or toss by goalkeeper shall pass midfield in the air (penalty: same as in item #5).
  8. No Direct Kicks or Indirect Kicks in the Penalty Area (all kicks are outside the box and indirect - Meaning the ball must touch at least 1 other person before entering the goal.
  9. goal cannot be scored from a kickoff - Meaning the ball must touch at least 1 other person before entering the goal
  10. Penalty kicks will be awarded if the penalty calls for it.
  11. Game length: two 20 minute halves.  With a 2 minute halftime
  12. Running Clock - the clock will not be stopped and no additional time added at the end of the game.  Only the center referee will keep time.
  13. 30 Second Water Breaks will be given at approximately 12 min into the half. (Players will get water - No coaching during Water Break)
  14. Maximum number of players on the field for U-10 is 8 players per side (If a team does not have enough players then both teams will play with the lesser teams players + 1 sub.  Meaning - If a team only has 8 players then both teams will play 7 on the field to allow for one sub.  (If a team does not have 6 players then the game is forfeited.)
  15. If a game is canceled due to weather no makeup game will be assigned.
  16. Red and Yellow cards will be given if the penalty warrants.
  17. No score will be kept.  This is recreational soccer and the purpose is for the players to have fun and to develop a love for the game.  Make it fun for all of the players
